Entrance Examination for the Graduate School (winter AY2020)

Information of Entrance Examination conducted in Winter

Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering, hold a joint entrance examination for Master's Course Program and Doctoral Course Program.

Applicants can download the Guidelines for Applicants to the 2021 Master's Course Program and Doctoral Course Program and "Details of Entrance Examinations" of Division of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering/Urban Management. The information below are outlines of the Admission Guides for reference purposes only and are subject to change without notice; be sure to confirm the details in the Admission Guidelines and "Details of Entrance Examination".

Applicants should contact supervising professors of preferred classifications and discuss application how to with them in advance. The preferred classifications are corresponding to the laboratories listed in this page for Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and this page for Department of Urban Management.

For the Master's and Doctoral Course Program entrance examination, applicants will have to take the examinations, which will be held in the Katsura Campus.

Special Measures for Response to COVID-19 (Updated on: February 1, 2021)

Due to social conditions caused by the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the entrance examination (winter AY2020) for the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and the Department of Urban Management, Kyoto University Graduate School of Engineering, will be conducted ONLINE, instead of face-to-face. Applicants do not have to come to the Katsura campus on the exam days.
Detailed information will be notified to each applicant from February 1st.

Master's Course Program

  2. Examination Schedule
    February 15 (Monday) or 16 (Tuesday), 2021.
  3. Course Program Selection
    As in the below there are five course programs that you can pursue upon entering the Master's Course Program:
    (1) Master's Course Program,
    (2) Master's Course Program, International Course,
    (3) Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program, Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Applied Mechanics,
    (4) Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program, Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Human Security Engineering, and
    (5) Advanced Engineering Course Program.
    The program will be determined by our specific procedure using the statement of course selection and results of the entrance examination.

Doctoral Course Program

  1. Examination Type
    1) 2021 Doctoral Course Program (Second Recruitment, April 2021 Admission)
    (1) Ordinary examination, (2) Special examination for full-time workers, (3) Special examination for PhD thesis draft, and (4) Special examination for foreign applicants on the Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program of the Human Security Engineering. See the guidelines and "Details of Entrace Examination" for the details.

    2) 2021 Doctoral Course Program (October 2021 Admission)
    (1) Special examination for foreign applicants on the Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program of the Human Security Engineering. See the guidelines and "Details of Entrance Examination" for the details.

    February 15 (Monday) or 16 (Tuesday), 2021.
  3. Program Selection
    Two programs have been prepared for those who enroll in the Doctoral Course Program. Programs available for enrollment by those who pass the entrance examination for the examination category Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering or Department of Urban Management are as follows.
    • Interdisciplinary Engineering Course Program
      (Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Evolutionarily Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering / Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Applied Mechanics / Postgraduate Integrated Course Program of Human Security Engineering)
    • Advanced Engineering Course Program
      (Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering or Department of Urban Management)

China Scholarship Council “国家建設高水平大学公派研究生項目”
(October 2021 Admission)

  1. The examination will be held in February 2021. See the "China Scholarship Council “国家建設高水平大学公派研究生項目” Guidelines for Applicants to the Doctoral Course Program" for the details.

    Note: In the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and Department of Urban Management, the applicants can apply only the Enrollment date of October 2021. 
  2. In the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering and Department of Urban Management, the applicant's English ability is evaluated by the results of TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS. Therefore, they must submit an English Ability Score. See the "Additional Application Documents" for the details.
